The Ad Analytics Dashboard extends the functionality of the Ad Manager by giving advertisers a powerful, intuitive way to monitor campaign performance and track spending in real time across the ad lifecycle.
Challenge:
The core problem was the absence of a cohesive analytics interface. Users needed a way to access meaningful insights quickly, understand trends over time, and make data-driven adjustments — all from within the same platform they used to build and launch ads.
Strategy:
I approached this challenge by envisioning a dashboard that would complement the Ad Manager and act as a single source of truth for ad performance. The design strategy prioritized simplicity, clarity, and scalability: we needed a layout that presented key metrics at a glance, while still allowing users to dig deeper as needed.
We selected a modular design approach so that each data visualization component — spend charts, performance metrics, engagement graphs — could scale as new data types were added.
Prototype:
Once the information architecture was clear, I moved to high-fidelity prototypes that demonstrated how real interactions would work: selecting time frames, comparing metrics, toggling breakdowns, and switching views between spend, performance, and creative analytics. Earlier prototypes helped align expectations with engineers and stakeholders, and they acted as a reference for building a consistent UI component library.
User Test & Dev:
Testing played a critical role in shaping final designs. I conducted usability sessions, gathering feedback from real advertisers and internal stakeholders. These sessions revealed where data presentation was confusing, which charts felt overwhelming, and where toggles or filters were needed to refine data views.
After finalizing designs and interaction patterns, I documented every component — chart types, data formatting rules, layout behavior, responsive design breakpoints — to guide engineering. Close collaboration with the engineers ensured that data integration, API endpoints, and rendering logic aligned with our design intent.
Impact:
The Ad Analytics Dashboard became a central feature of the advertising platform, transforming how users managed their campaigns. Advertisers gained a unified view of their campaign performance, making it easier to assess ROI, identify high-performing creative or placements, and adjust budgets accordingly. The real-time visibility into spend and engagement helped teams make data-driven decisions quickly and confidently.
By simplifying data consumption and creating an intuitive interface, the dashboard significantly reduced the cognitive overhead involved in tracking ads, which improved overall user satisfaction. It elevated the entire Ad Manager offering by turning it from a campaign creation tool into a comprehensive ad management ecosystem.
